WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT MEMBERSHIP
Three groups make up the Blackhawk community: visitors, regular attendees and members. All are integral to our community. The difference between regular attendees and members can be summed up in one word: commitment. It’s a bit like couples who date, and those who get married. While becoming a Christian means committing oneself to Christ, becoming a member means committing oneself to other Christians, and to working together to accomplish the mission of Blackhawk.
The membership process is designed to be a personally enriching step in one’s ongoing walk with Christ. If you have been at Blackhawk for over six months, have placed your faith in Christ and have begun to get connected with our ministries in order to grow and serve, you might be ready to consider the commitment of membership.
Membership Process
Step 1: Attend Discovering Blackhawk
This is a 1.5 hour introduction to Blackhawk where you discover “why we do, what we do, the way we do it.” It gives you a chance to meet Pastor Chris, hear his heart, and learn more about Blackhawk Church. These sessions are offered monthly on Sunday evenings. Watch the bulletin for the next date. No registration is required.
Step 2: Pick up a membership packet
The packets are available at Discovering Blackhawk and at the Information Center. In this small packet you will find a membership application to complete and return when you are ready to continue the membership process. The application can be turned in at any time to the Information Center in the Atrium. After submitting the form you will be contacted with information about the next class.
Step 3: Attend Growing Together, the five-week membership class
In the friendly setting of a group of 10-20 you will study Scripture as it relates to the characteristics of a growing disciple of Jesus Christ, and learns about the unique distinctives of Blackhawk Church. The classes meet on Sundays during one of the service hours.
Step 4: The Affirmation Interview
The last day of the membership class you will meet in a small group of 3-4 with an elder at Blackhawk. This is an opportunity to share your story of how you came to faith in Christ. The purpose of the interview is to affirm your commitment to Christ, to Blackhawk Church, to the process of personal spiritual growth, and to answer any questions you might have about Blackhawk. Membership becomes official as you sign a confirmation form during this interview time. (A private interview with an elder is available for those who may desire it.)
