Building a thriving African American community that deeply impacts Dane County with Jesus’ love.
Within God’s multicultural vision for our whole church, we also cherish the opportunity to come together specifically as people in the African American community at Blackhawk. We celebrate our shared stories, foods, traditions, values, music, and a sense of home that we sometimes crave while living within our city’s majority culture. We recharge spiritually, support one another, celebrate what God is doing, and look for ways to reach and influence our community in Dane County.
Our mission is to build a thriving African American community that follows Christ, fosters cross cultural relationships for God’s Kingdom, and deeply impacts Dane County with Jesus’ love.

Blackhawk African American Ministry began through the collaboration of two churches in Madison: Zion City and Blackhawk. The Pastors of these two churches, Chris Dolson and I (Colièr McNair), became friends years ago. Then, during the 2017-20 Reach campaign, Blackhawk sought to come alongside churches doing great ministry in neighborhoods that Blackhawk was not reaching at the time. This deepened our churches’ collaboration. At the same time, women in both congregations were coming together for the IF: Gathering.
Eventually, Zion City saw such a shared vision with Blackhawk that we asked to become a part of it. This marked the birth of the Blackhawk African American Ministry and a great step forward in Blackhawk’s growth as a multicultural church. We look forward to what God has in store for this ministry in the days ahead and invite you to find a sense of home with us here.
