At Blackhawk, we believe that an authentic church community should strive to meet individual needs through established relationships, such as those found in Life Groups, various ministry teams, and friendships. There are times, however, when additional care is needed.

You can see photos of our Congregational Care staff team here and click on a photo to contact one of them.

Do you have a need for prayer?

Blackhawk publishes a weekly list of prayer requests for church and individual needs. This list is distributed to hundreds of Blackhawk attendees and staff who pray.  If you would like to receive the prayer list by email, or if you have a request you would like included contact Alison Haworth.

Are you going through a hard time? Do you need a listening friend? Consider asking for a Stephen Minister.

What is Stephen Ministry?
One-to-one ministry by trained, caring, lay ministers who have responded to Christ's call to "carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Stephen Ministry provides someone who cares… supports… listens… shares… prays.

What is a Stephen Minister?
A Stephen Minister is…
  • A child of God who walks beside a hurting person
  • A caring Christian who really listens and supports
  • A lay person who has received 50 hours of training in how to provide compassionate care.

Stephen Ministers meet weekly for ongoing training, support and supervision.

Why should I seek a Stephen Minister?
Loss of spouse… retirement… loneliness… unemployment… despair… childbirth… hospitalization… grief… separation and divorce… terminal illness… being shut in… faith issues… going through difficult times and needing someone to care, listen and share God's love with you, one-to-one and confidentially.

A Stephen Minister is NOT…

  • A counselor, therapist, or mental health professional
  • A person who will solve all your problems

How can I receive care from a Stephen Minister?

I know someone who could use a Stephen Minister. How do I handle it?
Go to the person in need and let them know about Stephen Ministry. Pray with them about it. Encourage them to discuss it with a Stephen Leader. It is important that they make the decision to ask for help and make the first contact.

Are you facing health related issues?

Our Parish Nurse provides guidance and referrals for those needing assistance with health issues. She works with trained volunteers to come along side those struggling with health related issues or hospitalization.  If you are in need of medical advice, referrals, or an understanding of community health resources contact Mary Banks Knechtle (828-4200 ext 3656).

Spiritual Care for Women with Cancer: Monthly Meetings on the second Wednesday, 11:30-12:30, in Room 112 at Blackhawk
We desire to provide spiritual care and supportive community for women with cancer, who face specific challenges in their relationship with God and with their loved ones. A group of women, meeting together monthly for one hour, can problem solve and encourage one another personally. This is accomplished through a scripture-based spiritual reflection, prayer and mutual sharing. The outcome will be women who are caringly supported in a way that helps them to persevere in their faith, and be witnesses to God's presence in their lives.

Are you in need of meal assistance?
