Do you want to expand your heart, and grow closer to Christ?
Consider a Short-Term Missions Trip!

Juarez, Mexico, 2005
Mexico Trip 2005
Blackhawk is sending a short-term team to MEXICO, August 23-28, 2008, to build a house with Casas por Cristo. Some team members will also conduct Vacation Bible School for neighborhood children. If you have never tried missions, this is an excellent opportunity for first-timers. You do not need construction skills for this work. We are looking for servants who are eager to give of their time, abilities, and love to a family in need.

If you are interested in applying to go on the trip, print out an application here. You can read more information about the trip and about Casas por Cristo here.

Every year Blackhawk sends out many adults and teens for a short-term experience in missions. Whether it is to build a house in Mexico, minister to a rural community in Honduras, or pray for and encourage full-time missionaries in other parts of the world, these trips are life-changing. Click here for a list of this summer's trips, with prayer requests and blog sites for more information.

Here are a few ways that you can increase your short-term involvement:

  • Consider going on a short-term missions trip.
  • Adopt a short-term team to follow and pray for. You may be able to attend some of their meetings and get to know the members. Many of our teams have blogs set up to help you follow more closely.
  • Be a support person for a short-term team.
  • Adopt an individual going on a short-term missions trip – help them by prayer, support and encouragement. Or support a college student on a summer missions project. Be on their email team or check with their blog often.

Contact Gery Essenmacher for more information about short-term missions.

Going on a short-term mission trip this summer that is not with Blackhawk?

We would like to help you along in your discovery of what God would like to do in this world. We would be happy to help you as you serve the Lord outside of the US or in a cross-cultural US destination. If you are seeking financial support for a short-term missions trip (from one week to two years) outside of the US or in some cases a cross-cultural trip in the US, please download the application below for details and instructions. Please note the criteria for support and determine if you fit the requirements. Use the MS Word document if you can and return it over email as per the instructions. Application deadline for a summer trip is April 30.

We would also be happy to get together and pray with you as you work to discover God's will for your life in the area of missions. Please contact the Individual Short-term Missions Group for more information about any of the above opportunities.

BERT

Blackhawk Emergency Response Team

The Blackhawk Emergency Response Team (BERT) offers disaster/emergency relief through cleanup and rebuilding activities to communities suffering from natural disasters. Training is provided through local workshops or trips to disaster sites. The time commitment could be as long as a week, with some travel and lodging costs, depending on the nature and location of the emergency. In 2007 BERT is planning a trip to the Gulf Coast in the spring to continue Katrina cleanup and two more in the fall (time and location TBD). We also will try to respond to other emergencies as they arise and as we are able.

As the name implies, once trained and organized, BERT will become Blackhawk's response team for emergencies - another part of our community available to reach the community. Contact Dave Torkelson for more information.

To learn about joining or planning upcoming short-term trips, watch Blackhawk's publications and this web page.
