Training is provided through local workshops or trips to disaster sites. The time commitment could be as long as a week, with some travel and lodging costs, depending on the nature and location of the emergency. In 2007 BERT is planning a trip to the Gulf Coast in the spring to continue Katrina cleanup and two more in the fall (time and location TBD). We also will try to respond to other emergencies as they arise and as we are able. As the name implies, once trained and organized, BERT will become Blackhawk's response team for emergencies - another part of our community available to reach the community.
