Who could have imagined in May, 1965, that one day Blackhawk Church would have an attendance of about 2,700 people and offer ten services every Sunday? Even a decade ago, I could never have imagined all that would happen at Blackhawk in just ten years.
Ten years ago…
- I’d never heard of a video café. People gathering together to watch the sermon on a video screen—what a crazy idea! I could not have imagined that the casual and intimate atmosphere of the video café would become so popular that most Sundays we’d have to add chairs in the back of the room.
- I’d never heard of Mother and Child Resources. But the dream of one godly woman has become a ministry that has served close to a thousand families dealing with unplanned, often unwanted, pregnancies. It helps others by filling their needs for basic necessities like clothing, food, and furniture—things we all take for granted.
- Blackhawk didn’t have a college ministry. Today, hundreds of students hop on big yellow school buses every Sunday to come to Blackhawk to worship and serve. Who could now imagine what Blackhawk would be like without our students?
I couldn’t imagine Blackhawk as the church home for people from dozens of countries all over the world. But today, we not only host an international dinner every Sunday, but people gather in Indonesia and China to worship together and listen to sermons on the Blackhawk Web site. How many more people around the globe will hear the Gospel because of the international ministry?
- I didn’t know what a Stephen Ministry was. Who would have dreamed that dozens of lay volunteers at Blackhawk would become skilled at listening and praying for people who are hurting and needing encouragement?
Imagine what God will do with these ministries in the next ten years.
I have no idea what the Lord has in store for this church. I’ve learned that my imagination cannot keep pace with the reality that He has brought us.
Imagine Who… Imagine How
Because of His grace,
Chris
