What is a financial commitment card and why use it? Our campaign commitment card is not a contract, but a simple statement of intent. For church financial leaders, knowledge of what dollar amounts to expect is critical to planning wisely for future expenditures. Who will know what I/we put on the intended giving card and why? Only those who currently process regular contribution information will know this information. We remain committed to maintaining donor confidentiality—both with general giving and campaign funds. Commitment amounts will be used for planning. Tracking donor identity will allow for more meaningful and accurate statements of giving. People who are unable to give their full pledge amount will not receive phone calls or “reminders.” The campaign will be conducted in a fashion that is consistent with Blackhawk’s personality. Should the commitments I write on this card include my regular giving to Blackhawk? No. What you write on the financial commitment card should represent what you intend to give to the “Imagine” campaign, apart from your regular giving to the general church operating budget. Non-cash giving: What are non-cash gifts? Transferring ownership of an asset, rather than selling the asset and giving the cash. What kind of assets could I give? Gifts of appreciated investment property held more than one year, such as stock or mutual funds. Donating such gifts can have tremendous tax advantages. Why give non-cash gifts? The tax code is very generous toward this form of giving. Giving the asset to the church, then letting the church sell it eliminates potential capital gains taxes and can increase after-tax proceeds. (This summary is not intended to give tax advice. We recommend that you consult your personal tax professional for advice tailored to your financial situation.) How do I give non-cash gifts? Contact the church office (828-4200) for specific instructions on giving non-cash gifts. |
