VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Care and SupportStephen Minister It's about: Coming alongside someone who is needing one-on-one ministry to offer compassion, encouragement and prayer. In return, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a deeply fulfilling ministry, to make a huge difference in another's life and to receive substantial training, encouragement and supervision while involved. Responsibilities: Upon acceptance and completion of the training requirements, you will meet with your care-receiver weekly to listen, show compassion and give encouragement. Time and place: First and third Tuesday evenings every month at the church for continuing education and supervision Commitment: 50 hours of training to become a Stephen Minister, then ongoing meetings twice a month. In addition you will normally meet with your care-receiver weekly for an hour. Contact: Jay Baldwin It's about: Offering companionship and connection to the larger community at Blackhawk Church for those who are recovering in rehabilitation centers or unable to leave their homes. Responsibilities: Visit with paired individual twice a month Maintain visitation log for documentation Provide updates to ministry team contact person Maintain confidentiality Time and place: Twice a month - you and your paired individual establish a schedule and duration of the visits e.g. 30 minutes - 90 minutes Commitment: Twice a month Next step: Meet with Congregational Care Coordinator, review Adult Protection Policy and complete the Visitation application Contact: Sandra Malone It's about: Caring for someone in need. Responsibilities: Attend a Care Support Team meeting at the Care Receiver's home Volunteer care and help suited to your giftedness and availability Pray regularly for the Care Support Team and those receiving care Commitment: Must be willing to serve on one Care Support team on an as-needed basis. Contact: Sandra Malone It's about: Offering spiritual care to those in the Blackhawk community who are in the hospital. Responsibilities: Brief visits to local health care facilities to pray and encourage. Time and place: Opportunities available various times and days Commitment: According to availability Next step: Request an interview Contact: Dave Gagnon It's about: Encouraging grieving families by preparing and serving a funeral luncheon. Responsibilities: Respond to a luncheon request via e-mil or a phone call from the funeral team coordinator Prepare and serve the luncheon Remain friendly and discreet while assisting during the luncheon Clean-up kitchen and serving area following the luncheon Time and place: Blackhawk Church, Monday-Saturday, 2-4 hours the day of the luncheon, 2-4 day notice prior to funeral Commitment: As needed Next step: Schedule an interview and training session with Sandra Malone, Care Coordinator or the Funeral Team Coordinator. Contact: Sandra Malone It's about: A fun and easy way to help someone in our Blackhawk Community regain strength after a hospital stay or new baby! Responsibilities: Make a meal for a family and deliver it to their home or the church kitchen for pick-up. Time and place: Volunteers may be called upon regularly, but providing a meal may be once or twice a year if it works for your schedule and location. Commitment: As needed…we always send out needs as they arise on an email database. You can help out as much as you want.
